Race Portrait

In this post I will be describing how minorities are perceived in Patton as part of a post for my English class.

My town is predominantly white, but we are and would be tolerant of any race living in Patton.  For example, in my high school, we only had three minorities total in the entire school.  They were African Americans, and it was as if there was no racial barrier between us and them.  We accepted them as our own, everyone was so kind to and respecting of them.  One of my friends actually used to make a joke that "they are the whitest black kids you will never know."  I can definitely see where he is coming from, because I saw how they picked up our cultural characteristics.  They integrated so flawlessly with us, they did everything we did, and embraced our white culture in the fullest.  We became very close with them, and all three are still pretty close friends of mine today.  In Patton, skin is just a color and it doesn't affect how you are treated, where all people.
